The wood ministry seeks to provide firewood to impoverished families in the community free-of-charge from donated wood split and seasoned. The ministry is managed in conjunction with the Fauquier Community Coalition (FCC), a non-profit organization, and St. James Episcopal Church.
WBC works in the wood lot (at the Awlington Farms Property) the first and third Saturdays of each month and St. James heads the work sessions on the other Saturdays. We cut, split, and stack wood that has been donated and dropped off at the property by friends of the ministry, including some professional arborists. We have had workers aged 8 through 80 working in the lot. Workers have ranged from novice to expert and have included men and women each working according to their skills and interests. The work sessions are only 2 hours long and we have been fortunate to have sufficient firewood to meet the needs of our 22 client families.
