“For unto us a child is born, to us a son is given; and the government shall be upon His shoulder, and His name shall be called Wonderful Counselor, Mighty God, Everlasting Father, Prince of Peace.” – Isaiah 9:6

“And a great windstorm arose, and the waves were breaking into the boat, so the boat was already filling. But He was in the stern asleep on the cushion. And they woke Him and said to Him, ‘Teacher, do you not care that we are perishing?’ And He awoke and rebuked the wind and said to the sea, ‘Peace! Be still!’ And the wind ceased, and there was great calm.” – Mark 4:37-39

The Christmas story reveals God as the “Prince of Peace”. God brings peace into the storms of our lives. The story above in the life of the disciples gives us a very visible picture of the power of Jesus in a storm. What He does on the water that day He does for us in the storms of our life. And He CAN! He is the Prince of Peace!

It is no accident that the very next story in the Gospel of Mark is this boatload of “amazed” disciples would dock in the country of the Gerasenes where they would meet a demon possessed man. This man lived among the tombs and was tormented by a “storm” of evil spirits. And, just as Jesus calmed the storm of the raging sea, Jesus calmed the spiritual storm in this man’s life. The authority over the events of the natural world is simply a visual of His authority over the spiritual world. He is the Prince of Peace. He is the only one that can calm the storms within you.

God has always done that. He has the authority over all things and can bring peace where there is no peace. The town of Bethlehem was a chaotic place that first Christmas…and then came Jesus…peace on earth…in the flesh!
