“Do you not know that you are God’s temple and that God’s Spirit dwells in you?” (1 Corinthians 3:16)
This is one of those questions asked when the answer is supposed to be obvious. Paul is asking this question to get the divided Corinthian church back on track. They had become divided about many things and spent most of their time arguing with one another. They had lost sight of the most important thing about being the church…Jesus is LORD and we are HIS temple! We are the church! This is about Him…not you!
The Scripture tells us that those who have come to God through faith in Jesus have become a residence of the King! Therefore, He is Lord. Unfortunately, like earthly kingdoms, we often forget who is in charge of our lives and go about living our life the way we want to live it. “Wrong,”. Paul is saying, “You are the temple of God…so act like it”.
As we come to the grand finale of our challenge to pray for God to grant revival to our churches, communities and our country, let us remember that God richly dwells within us and that we are the church and that “Greater is He that is within us than he that is in the world” (1 John 4:4)
