Trust in the LORD…Delight yourself in the LORD…Commit your way to the LORD…Be still before the LORD…” (Psalm 37:3-7).

In this Psalm David gives us some great elements to embrace in our prayer life. First, we need to “trust” in the LORD. There must be an element of faith for our prayers to be effective. This means that we have no doubt that God has our best interests in mind. Second, there needs to be a certain sense of enjoyment in coming into the presence of the LORD. a joy that is not dependent on our circumstances. Third, put all your plans and ideas before Him for approval…commit your ways to the LORD!

Lastly, quiet your soul before the LORD…be still. In our lives we are always moving from one thing to another and often find ourselves praying “on the run”. This is good to turn our thoughts to God as we go, but all of our prayers should not be that way. There are times that we need to “be still” before the Lord…get to a quiet place and sit at the feet of our Father. Jesus called it going into and closet and shutting the door.

Today, as you pray for God to grant revival to our church, our community and our country, take a moment to be still in His presence.
