Part of humbling ourselves before the Lord is realizing that revival does not come because we deserve it or because we have earned it. It is granted by the Lord alone. It is a combination of mercy and grace together.
We receive mercy when God forgives us and we do not get what we deserve. It is experienced when we realize that we are sinners and are saved from a just sentence of death. It is not getting what we deserve.
On the other hand, grace is getting what you do not deserve. As believers we are not only saved from condemnation but we are given new life in Christ Jesus. We are not just saved from something but we are saved to something!
So, when you are praying for God to grant revival to our church and our community and our country, we are praying for mercy (a pardon from what we deserve) and grace (receiving a blessing we haven’t earned).
