#18 – God is a Savior
In a world of so many opinions and perspectives it is hard to find anything that everyone can agree on. But there are a few things. One is that this world is a broken place. Something is wrong here. All people would agree that this world is in need of some help. Where that help comes from is where the difference in opinion begins.
Christmas reveals to us that the God who created us is the same God that has been pursuing us since the beginning. The Scriptures tell us that it is because of His great love for us that He has come to provide the restoration…the help…the rescue that this world so desperately needs. The birth of Jesus is God bursting into our sinful lives and making reconciliation with the Father possible. He is the God who gives sight to the blind. who makes the lame to walk, who sets the prisoners free and brings that which is dead back to life. Christmas demonstrates to us that God has not given up on us. God did not form us in His image and walk away…He has come to save us.
God is a Savior.
The Bible tells us that we were dead in our sins. We were lost with no hope of finding our way. There was no one that could help us. But, then came Christmas. “God so loved the world, that He gave His only Son, that whoever believes in Him should not perish but have eternal life.” (John 3:16). The shepherds were the first to recognize the Savior and the wise men were soon to follow. Since then, all who have called upon the name of the Lord have been saved. What is this name? The elders and rulers asked the disciples the same question when they healed a lame beggar, “By what power or by what name did you do this?” Peter answered,
“Let it be known to all of you and to all the people of Israel that by the name of Jesus Christ of Nazareth, whom you crucified, whom God raised from the dead…this Jesus is the stone that was rejected by you, the builders, which has become the cornerstone. And there is salvation in no one else, for there is no other name under heaven given among men by which we must be saved.” – Acts 4:10-12
