Nursing Home Ministry

Nursing Home Ministry

The purpose of the Nursing Home Ministry is to provide a time on Sunday mornings for nursing home residents to meet for Christian fellowship. Many miss going to church and participating in a consistent Sunday morning gathering. Our mission is to share Christ’s love and to bring spiritual comfort and friendship to those confined to a nursing home.

What began as an activities calendar time slot for “Bible Trivia” has now evolved into what feels like a casual, mini-church time. Prayer needs are shared and prayed for, scripture is read along with a devotional message or story, and hymns are sung. Sometimes, fun jokes are shared (How does Moses make his coffee? He-brews it!) or Bible games are played. There are also times when it takes the form of a support group if someone is depressed and needs extra love, support, and prayer.

Currently we meet at the Fauquier Health Rehab & Nursing Center (FHRNC) on Sunday mornings from 11-11:30 AM. There is potential for this ministry to extend to other nursing homes if there is interest. Because relationships have been formed and friendships have been made, this ministry often extends beyond Sunday mornings. We naturally enjoy going back to visit during the week, extending God’s love in various ways to our very special friends. We may also attend the funeral of our friends, if that time comes, helping their family know their dear one was loved and cared for.
